How can I move software out of C: drive to D: drive?

My computer was partitioned when I bought it new. Only downloads go automatically to D drive. C drive has only 15% free space left while D drive is 80% free. Can I move large programs into D??

How can I move software out of C: drive to D: drive?
First, you can't just move programs from one place to another. There are too many pieces in too many places, including the Registry. The only reliable way to transfer a program is to uninstall it, then reinstall it on the other drive.

But do you really want to put it on D:? As has been mentioned, D: is usually a sacred recovery partition and really shouldn't be touched. Even storing downloads there is frowned upon. D: is often not very big, so 15% of C: may be much bigger than 80% of D:. Check the actual space available.

Adding a second whole disk drive might be your best option.

Hope that helps.
Reply:no, usually this is not possible, coz the path of some files is saved in the register and if u moved them it wont work..

reinstall the programs..
Reply:If you have exe file of any program, then you can install that program on D-drive. just give directory address as D:\Program Files instead of C:\Program Files when prompted by the installer.

Uninstall the program from 'C' drive before you install it on 'D' drive.
Reply:If you've already got the programs/software installed on C the only thing I can think of is use something similar to Ghost or Acronis and image the programs folder to the other drive.

But you may have a problem with drive paths then. (which is usually only shortcuts, which can be changed)
Reply:Yes, but al of the shortcuts for the programs you move will not work. you will have to create new shortcuts.

do not cut and paste; copy, paste, test new, delete old. in that order:)
Reply:you have reinstall it and change the directory to D
Reply:Usually when you buy a computer that s already partitioned the D drive is used for recovery files and is only about 10 GB anyways. If yo wanted to put programs on th D drive you would probably have to install it there.
